In Zentangle, we create pattern designs not out of boredom but focus on mindfulness.

Have you ever seen yourself drawing on scraps of paper like bills, paper napkins, or the back of a notebook with an abstract piece of art while having a conversation on the phone, waiting in a lounge, or listening to a boring lecture? I am sure you did. And without knowing, you created a beautiful piece of art. This form of art is doodling. Your first thought when it is over is to save that little scrap with a beautiful pattern secretly in your wallet or bag.

Doodling can turn into a form of meditative art called Zentangle. The Difference is that we create pattern designs not out of boredom but focus on mindfulness. So, Zentangle is nothing but a brand name given to the meditative activity of abstract drawings. I love this art therapy. It helps you relax and focus, increases creativity, and provides artistic satisfaction.

Traditionally, to doodle or for Zentangle art, you need paper (probably a square) and a pen (which doesn't bleed); We begin the process by creating strings that divide the square paper into separate pieces to draw patterns or tangles. A pencil is the best tool to draw the strings so that they disappear from the finished artwork. The strings just act as a guideline, and one can do various variations of tangle in the same space.

Digitally, we can pattern tiles using this technique in Adobe Fresco or Illustrator and incorporate them into the artwork creatively. Possibilities are endless, and it all depends on what your mind and hands want to create.
